Greetings U10 and U8 Racers and Families

Greetings U10 and U8 Racers and Families,

Coach Brian Kelly and I look forward to carving turns and having fun on the slopes of the Camden Snow Bowl this season! We’re looking forward to reconnecting with returning athletes and getting to know new recruits. Athletes will also have the opportunity to meet and get to know their teammates on the slopes and riding the lifts.

U10 and U8 are a combined group and will meet every Wednesday from 4:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., and every Saturday from 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the exception of Saturday 2/3, Wednesday, 2/21, and Saturday 2/24. Our last official day of the season is Saturday March 2nd. Depending on conditions, we may have additional opportunities to train later in the season.

At the beginning and end of each practice, we’ll meet by the kiosk slopeside of the lodge. If your racer arrives after we’ve loaded the lift, please do not send them after us. Please find another CSB coach or Mtn. Steward to notify us that they have arrived so we can determine how to best link up. At the conclusion of each practice please make contact with a coach at pick-up so we can be sure your racer is accounted for. If you’d like to arrange a different pick-up situation, please let us coaches know.

This season we are going to work on skills that will help athletes develop into confident skiers with a good understanding and execution of balance, edging, and linking carved turns. Skills practice will include fun and challenging drills and build to short “stubby” (very short gates) courses to acclimate athletes to slalom and giant slalom courses. We may at times split the team into smaller groups to make the coaching and skill-work more individualized. The ultimate goal is to have fun and strengthen a lifelong love of hitting the slopes!

For athletes who love the feeling of competition, we encourage them to sign up for Friday Night Racing, which starts this Friday (1/5) with a fun, non-scored practice race at 5 pm. The CSB will host the Seacoast Classic Kombi race on Sunday, January 21st. This race is for ages 7-13 and incorporates both slalom and giant slalom elements. It is the only Kombi offered in the state and is a popular race that typically fills up, so register soon if your child is interested.

Wednesday, January 3rd – Start of the mid-winter programs
Friday, January 5th – Friday Night Racing Free Fun Night! Come and see what Friday Night Racing is all about and meet people to form a team! Friday Night Racing registration.
